Surgery is not necessarily always the only option for treatment of a spinal injury, sciatica, arthritis, or sport-related injury. The particular trauma may not be severe enough to warrant an operation, or other issues may come into play. At Atlantic Orthopaedic Specialists, we recognize that no two patients are the same – different conditions require individualized attention. This is why we are proud to offer a full scope of orthopaedic services that include physiatry and non-surgical pain management.

Physiatry is the practice of diagnosing and treating painful conditions through primarily physical means – namely medication and physical rehabilitation. Atlantic Orthopaedic Specialists has experienced physiatrists on staff trained to treat the musculoskeletal system without resorting to surgery. Using advanced tools, technologies and procedures, such as electromyography (EMG) and nerve conduction studies, our physiatrists are able to prescribe the necessary medications and braces needed to help a patient heal.
