On May 4, 2018 Atlantic Orthopaedic Specialists hosted free of charge to participants, the annual Rehabilitation Professionals’ Workers’ Compensation Conference. Nearly 200 rehabilitation professionals from throughout the Hampton Roads area gathered at the Hilton Oceanfront Hotel in Virginia Beach, Virginia. They came to earn continuing education credit and network with AOS Physicians, Therapists, fellow professionals and exhibitors.
Seven AOS Orthopaedic Surgeons and three AOS Physical & Occupational Therapists lectured on work related injuries, treatments and return to work programs. Lively question and answer sessions followed each presentation. The panel discussion at the end of the conference had full participation and covered a diverse array of subjects including surgical and non-surgical approaches to work related injuries. Both lecturers and attendees contributed to an informative, two-way exchange of information on best practices in workers compensation case management.
Among the 10 orthopaedic topics presented by AOS surgeons and therapists at the conference were lower back pain, cartilage injury, interventional pain management, and knee replacement. One attendee remarked, “Thank you for the most amazing AOS Conference yet, exceptional and well organized. You all take it to another level when it comes to applicability to practice.”
Workers compensation professionals attending the conference earned 6 hours of Continuing Education credit from 4 key professional workers compensation credentialing organizations, the Virginia Nurses Association (VNA), the Disability Management Specialists Commission (CDMS), The Commission for Case Manager Certification (CCMC) and the Commission for Rehabilitation Counselor Certification (CRCC.)
As leaders in orthopaedic health, AOS is pleased to provide this educational program free of charge. The two-way exchange of information between medical professionals and case managers participating is a dynamic forum that benefits both participants and providers in their efforts to continuously improve communication and the quality of care given injured workers.
The physicians and staff of Atlantic Orthopaedic Specialists would thank our participants and exhibitors for making the Rehabilitation Professionals Workers Compensation Conference an overwhelming success!
