Understanding Hip Anatomy and Function

The hip is a ball-and-socket joint formed by the articulation of the femoral head (the ball) and the acetabulum of the pelvis (the socket). This structure allows for a wide range of motion, including walking, running, and jumping. The joint is stabilized by a complex network of muscles, tendons, and ligaments, which work together to support movement and maintain balance. Given its central role in mobility, the hip joint is susceptible to various injuries and degenerative conditions that can significantly impact one’s quality of life.
