Dr. Sanderlin joined AOS as a non-surgical, pain management physician. His practice focus includes minimally-invasive Pain Management & Relief treatments, such as cervical, thoracic, and lumbar epidural steroid injections, medial branch and peripheral joint radiofrequency ablation, peripheral joint injections, and spinal cord simulator trials.

A Virginia native, Dr. Sanderlin has spent most of career in his home state, beginning with earning his undergraduate degree in Biology from James Madison University. He completed his Doctor of Medicine program, internship, and residency at Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine. Following this, he was fellowship-trained at Virginia Interventional Spine Physicians.
After his fellowship, Dr. Sanderlin worked in practices in Richmond, North Carolina, and Hampton Roads. Additionally, he has served as a contributor to the Rehab in Review Newsletter, and has lectured and presented research to various departments at Virginia Commonwealth University. He is the author of multiple book chapters and journal articles.
Dr. Sanderlin, his wife Kate, and his son Henry live in Norfolk. Outside of work he enjoys running, golf, and spending time with his family.

After describing what I had recently been experiencing, Dr. Sanderlin examined my back and hips, discerning another area that could be treated with injections. Every appointment I have had with Dr Sanderlin was great. The office is nice and clean, staff and doctor are outstanding, an very family oriented which I love. They always have a smiles on their faces when greeting patients. You are treated with great respect, and are never still sitting in the waiting area not one second past your scheduled appointment time. The nurse is in checking vitals, and asking questions, and the doctor is in your exam room within minutes. Dr. Sanderlin has tried 4 shots in the back without good results. My pain is significantly getting worse and I’m trying to hang in there while praying for relief. The injection into the SI joint went well and relieved about 50% of my pain. Dr. Sanderlin mentioned that if the first injection did not work he would move up the spine to the bottom 2 vertebrae. When I had this visit with Dr. Sanderlin I felt like he took the time to listen to what my concerns were and was trying to come up with a plan to where my treatment would go next. I left the office with a order for a MRI, and a ‘plan b’ if the MRI was inconclusive. He also gave me two new medications to try, which I am SO happy to report is helping with the pain management.
